Former Black Stars Management Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo has advised the Ghana Football Association to refrain from appointing a new permanent head coach before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He suggests instead that technical director Winfried Schäfer be given the team on an interim basis.

Speaking to Kessben Sports, Fianoo argued that rushing to find a long-term replacement for Otto Addo with fewer than 10 weeks to the tournament would be a mistake. Instead, he urged the GFA to take its time and conduct due diligence while allowing someone already familiar with Ghanaian football to steer the ship for the World Cup.

"The technical director at the GFA understands the Ghanaian terrain, so I'll suggest we give him the national team to handle on an interim basis while we take our time to look for a new coach," Fianoo said.

"My fear is that we don't have enough time on our side. I think we should give him the job and take our time to do due diligence and find a coach who will take us through the short, medium and long term because we're becoming a country that appoints a new coach every year."

Fianoo noted that Schäfer had previously expressed interest in the Black Stars coaching job before Otto Addo was appointed, and his current role as technical director means he already knows the players and the local football environment.

The GFA is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days, but Fianoo's advice suggests a different approach: delay the permanent appointment until after the World Cup, using Schäfer as an interim solution for the tournament.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama and will open their campaign on June 17 in Toronto.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

By Kestér Kenn KLOMEGÂH

Ghana’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah, on April 9th, 2026, engaged in a substantive exchange views on bilateral economic issues, with Belarusian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, emphasizing key areas for the development of mutual cooperation between Ghana and Belarus. He stressed that Ghana is open for business, ready to consider commercial proposals and strengthen friendship with concrete projects—from feed supplies to expanding commodity nomenclature.

Ambassador Jehu-Appah further praised the promptness and systematicity of the Belarusian approach to the implementation of the agreements: “We are impressed by the discipline and practicality with which Belarus solves problems. We are open for business, ready to consider commercial proposals and strengthen the friendship with concrete projects—from feed supplies to expanding commodity supplies.”

In the words of Ghana’s Ambassador, Belarus produces the best agricultural machinery. “Belarus and Ghana have a lot of promising areas of cooperation. It’s both cultural exchange, and mechanical engineering, and education…” said Dr. Jehu-Appiah, and pointed out that Ghana has, already, procured three (3) thousand cars of Belarusian production.

In his contribution during the talks, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Alexander Yakovczyts, reaffirmed mutual interest in developing bilateral trade relations and laid out concrete steps to expand the nomenclature of supplies.

In 2025, exports of Belarusian agricultural food products to Ghana grew by 6 %, and the parties agreed to raise cooperation. Belarus supplies wheat, poultry and beef, and receives cocoa products, tropical fruits and vegetable oils.

“We see real potential for supply expansion: from butter and cheeses to wheat flour and pasta. Our businesses operate with a flexible pricing policy and are open to dialogue with African partners. The main thing is that the proposals are mutually beneficial and reinforced by feedback,” Yakovczyts noted.

The emphasis in the negotiations is on transfer of competences: Ghana is interested in procurement of compounds and finished products, as well as learning Belarusian poultry experience—technologies of maintenance, feeding and production management cycles.

In the dialogue which aims at strengthening bilateral relations, both parties, further, agreed to accelerate coordination of the interdepartmental memorandum of cooperation in agriculture. The document is planned to be signed in June at the Belagro exhibition, to which the Ghanaian delegation—both officials and business representatives—has been invited.

Belarus and Ghana aim for a transparent and mutually beneficial partnership. If the current dynamics are maintained, Belarusian products may soon occupy a more prominent place on the West African market, and cocoa and cashew nuts – to be more actively used in the Belarusian confectionery industry.

Just eight minutes later, Kusi-Asare delivered the decisive moment, timing his run perfectly before steering home from a Macauley Zepa pass to turn the game on its head and put Fulham 2–1 up.

Chelsea pushed hard late on, but Fulham defended their lead with determination, helped by substitutes who added fresh energy in the closing stages. He deserves it,” said head coach Daniel Thioune before the clash with Köln, while stressing that his development will still be managed carefully. For the moment, Musah is making a real impact from the bench, yet his training levels clearly show “that he wants more and is pulling at it”, exactly the kind of ambition the staff want to see from him.

Thioune noted that Musah is currently coping well with his role as a super-sub and that the club are wary of piling too much pressure on his shoulders too quickly. Bremen’s attacking options are growing, but Musah’s rise is giving head coach Daniel Thioune an increasingly tempting decision to make for his starting XI.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

The Western Naval Command in Sekondi, with support from the Second Infantry Battalion in Takoradi, has seized eight unregistered boats in an operation at the coastal community of New Takoradi.

The vessels are suspected to have been used for illegal fuel bunkering activities along the New Takoradi and Poasi landing beaches.

Sources indicate that the boats were facilitating the unlawful transfer of fuel and other petroleum products, raising concerns over maritime security and environmental safety.

Speaking after the operation, the Western Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission, Dr. Charles Teye, stated that the seized boats were not recognised as fishing vessels.

He explained that none of the vessels had been registered with the Commission and were therefore operating outside the legal framework.

He noted that the exercise was carried out in accordance with Sections 53 and 54 of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2023, which mandate permits for the construction and operation of such vessels.

The Acting Branch Head of the Ghana Maritime Authority in Takoradi, Hudeen Daud Ahmed, commended the Ghana Navy for the successful operation.

He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s maritime space and safeguarding the livelihoods of coastal communities through sustained collaboration with key stakeholders.

Officials from the Ghana Maritime Authority, Fisheries Commission, National Petroleum Authority and the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service were present to inspect the seized boats to ensure transparency in the process.

The vessels have been transported to the Sekondi Naval Base for further investigations and potential legal action.

The conference, now in its third edition, brought together key suppliers and vendors of the Bank as well as various internal and external stakeholders from across the country to discuss efficiency, sustainability, and the role of technology in strengthening the supply chain. The event provided a platform for open dialogue, feedback, and collaborative planning for the year ahead.

Addressing the session held in Accra, Executive Head of Operations at PBL, Felix Apau Awuku, reinforced the Bank’s charge in nurturing mutually beneficial relationships.

He noted that suppliers are integral to the Bank’s ability to deliver value to customers and should be regarded as partners in progress rather than transactional stakeholders.

Mr Awuku highlighted the Bank’s priorities of the year: efficiency, sustainability, and technology noting that Prudential Bank has streamlined processes to reduce lead times and improve reliability and is actively exploring AI insights to anticipate demand and optimise supply chain performance.

“Trust that we will honour our commitments. Trust that we will grow together. Trust that when challenges arise, we will treat them side by side. Together, we are not just suppliers of greatness. We are protectors of our progress,”Mr. Awuku assured the suppliers.

He encouraged suppliers to use the conference not only to exchange ideas but to strengthen relationships, saying the Bank has renewed energy and shared goals to build a supply chain that is efficient, ethical, sustainable, and future?ready.

Earlier in a welcome address, Head of Procurement at the Bank, Carlis Ebow Arko, emphasised that the purpose of the meeting was simple: to build better working relationships, solicit feedback, and improve collaboration going forward.

He highlighted that the Bank views its suppliers not merely as vendors, but as strategic partners who play a vital role in delivering value, indicating that strong supplier collaboration significantly enhances operational efficiency and contributes meaningfully to overall business performance.

Laying further emphasis on this strategic partnership, Mr Arko stated that: “All over the world, suppliers play an important role in ensuring that operational efficiency is achieved. Statistically, businesses that partner with suppliers in digital integration see a 25% improvement in business performance.”

The conference ultimately served as a platform to renew commitments, exchange ideas, and strengthen the shared vision of building a resilient, ethical, and future-ready supply chain. Prudential Bank continues to demonstrate that excellent customer service begins with strong, trusted relationships behind the scenes.
